Remote Management of a Natural Gas Pipeline
A natural gas company wanted to remotely control compressor stations that are located alongside a pipeline. Wiring costs can be high and wires get accidentally cutted, thus the solution had to be wireless. A major natural gas transportation and distribution company in Thailand wanted to have better control over their operations. The offshore and onshore transmission lines in their vast natural gas pipeline network are several thousands of kilometers in length. In addition, the distribution lines branch out from the transmission lines to serve various industrial users.
What is a compressor station?
An onshore gas pipeline is divided into smaller sections by so called compressor stations. It is natural to have small pressure differences along the pipeline. Compressor stations are instruments used for monitoring and compensating these inevitable but small pressure differences. A compressor station can also detect whether a leakage in the pipeline has occured. For billing purposes, a compressor station has gauges that measure how much a particular industrial customer has consumed gas.
Wireless beats wireline
A Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) interfaces with the electronics at a compressor  station. An RTU, in turn, can be connected to a centralized SCADA control center via its serial data interface. The natural gas company was looking for a reliable wireless connectivity solution as wiring costs can be high and wires can get accidentally cut. Not to mention high monthly communication costs.

Wireless M2M for Video Monitor

Cellular router and modem is widely used in different field for non-industrial internet data connection and industrial application with wireless M2M solutions.

GPRS Router and GPRS Modem

What is GPRS?
GPRS is a cellular network stands for General Packet Radio Service, and it is a protocol for passing data over a mobile phone network. Here is more info knowing about GPRS,
  1. GPRS replaced dial-up cellular modem and cellular router Internet access, offering faster browsing of Internet content and email. It's an "always on" service".
  2. GPRS on a cellular modem and cellular router doesn't use a phone number to connect; it uses something called an APN (Access Point Name).
  3. GPRS has now been largely superseded by faster data network services known as 3G

Nowadays wireless M2M is with high requirement and in fast growing. The wired solution is a traditional solution with cables, which bring the construction and operation difficulty. The wireless M2M solution make it easier with wireless cellular connections.

The 3G UMTS Router is one of the cellular device. 3G UMTS Router is a wireless cellular router working under 3G UMTS networks upon HSDPA/HSUPA.

1.    Summary

The development of mobile communication and Internet technology is bringing profound changes in the society, and the mature wireless data transmission technology is applied in many industries. 2.     Basic Functions and Application
3.1.1 Multiple Communication Means and Flexible Networking Methods
Communication means supported include GPRS, GSM (SMS), CDMA, RS232, RS485, etc. The remote stations can select the appropriate communication means according to the actual situation, so the networking is flexible.

When the communication means of combining GPRS/CDMA and GSM (SMS) is used, DTU (communication module) of E-Lins has the function of automaticly switching between two channels to ensure real-time communication.

3.1.2 Collector and Communication Module Monitoring Each Other
The collector and the communication module can monitor each other’s operation, and both can enable the processing program in case of abnormity.

3.1.3 Automatic Warning
When the observed data exceeds the threshold, the warning report of observed data is automatically generated and the HMI is informed.

3.1.4 Self-diagnosis of Operation Status
The operation of the collector, the status of the sensor and the condition of power supply, etc. can be monitored, and reports are periodically generated and transmitted to the HMI for monitoring the remote and automatic station.

3.1.5 Remote Processing
The collector provides the remote processing function, and allows the HMI to remotely operate the automatic station through all kinds of communication means, such as requesting for observed data, requesting for operation data, maintaining the collector remotely, etc.; provides commands of collector terminal, and can enter the collector terminal to search and collect all kinds of operation parameters.

3.1.6 Big Storage Capacity
With the internal storage of 1.7M and external extended storage greater than 160M. Observed data can be stored for more than 1.5 months continuously.

3.1.7 Good Power Supply Guarantee
Master and backup power supplies are used. The solar cell is used with the big capacity, high performance storage cell to supply 12V DC master power for the system, which ensures above 30 days of endurance of the storage cell in continuous overcast and rainy days. When the master power supply is cut or the voltage drops below the setting, the system will automatically switch to the backup cell; when the capacity of the backup cell drops below the setting, the power supply of the communication units that consume much electricity will be cut automatically to ensure that the collector can still work normally for a long time and ensure the completeness of the data collected.

The power supply has the function of monitoring the voltage of cell, with over voltage and over current protection.

3.1.8 Extensible Factors

3G Broadband Cellular WiFi Router

What is a 3G Router?
A 3G Router is a cellular broadband cellular router that uses a 3G network SIM card to provide high speed internet connectivity for multiple users over the 3G mobile networks.

What is dual SIM cellular router?

The dual sim mobile router also has features of NAT firewall - like a home broadband router - and a VPN client supports both L2TP, PPTP, GRE, Ipsec, which bring high security for the network and links.
