Cellular Router and Modem Difference

Cellular Router
A cellular router short for cell router, is a router provides shared Internet access by incorporating a cellular data modem and providing common interfaces like Ethernet and WiFi. Different cellular routers work on different networks.
Cellular network are divided into GSM cellular, CDMA cellular and 3G cellular, meanwhile, there are GSM router, CDMA Router and 3G Router.
They can be deployed as a primary WAN link to a location where wired connections are not cost-effective, can also be used as a secondary or business continuity plan should the primary cabled link fail, or can be used in moving vehicles to provide Internet access while in motion. Cellular routers range from simple SOHO network oriented devices through rugged industrial units with advanced features.
For SOHO and high data requirement, 3G Router are the best to use. For small data package transmission, GSM router and CDMA router are enough.
EVDO Router, HSDPA Router, HSUPA Router and HSPA Router are hot used in many different areas such as coffee shop, small shop, home, airport, etc.

Cellular Modem

A cellular modem is a modem provides internet access by the cellular networks on GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA or CDMA/EVDO networks.
Cellular modem provides a USB port or RS232 port. USB port is for high speed data transmission. RS232 port normally is for industrial application for SMS and small package data transmission.
Router support route features, we can think it built-in modem. Modem is a simple dialing device.
